EDITOR'S NOTES
This may be the last round up of the year-they do seem to go past faster as one gets, well, um, over 21! Will Cape Town have a booming Christmas? Will anywhere? Planes are full, at least those are not grounded for one reason or another, the Brits are getting seriously hit by austerity measures, the Irish would be emigrating to the US again if they were allowed to, there are terrorism warnings over Europe and the US is printing money like crazy. But down here at the very bottom, the sun will shine, the wind will blow, bluebottles and sharks will terrorize Muizenberg, and a very last minute shopping rush will save the stores. In other words, we will probably, and hopefully, potter on as usual.
The Mount Nelson can accommodate loads of people for lunch, so we look forward to a record turn out of Skållies and mates on Dec 3. And remember, you MUST wear a mask. What that means is up to you! There will be a small fine if you don't. And a HUGE prize for the most outlandish.
See you there

NOVEMBER 2010
| We met upstairs at The Townhouse Hotel, and to many it was a very pleasant surprise. Lots of changes have resulted in a very attractive and bright dining venue, well staffed, and of course lunch was the usual noisy and fun affair. The lunch was kindly sponsored and branded by Allee Bleue Wine Estate.
And the lucky person who gets 3 complimentary lunches for introducing a member? None other than she-who-keeps-the-Skål-show-on-the-road, Anne Lamb! It wasn't a set up, promise-but it was a very well deserved result.
|
|
As always huge thanks to those who brought prizes for our raffle. If anyone is not mentioned, sincere apologies:
Roger Newton, Commodore hotel; Joy Strydom, Rovos Rail; Anne Lamb, Skål Cpt; Annette Ashley, Restaurant 221; Philip Engelen, Brooklands House; Anna-Mart Erasmus, Peal Valley Golf Course; Richard
Keet, Garden Court Eastern Boulevard; Lucy Gregory, Avis Rent a Car; Naomi Herselman, Portman House; Karen Litson, Cape Agulhas Country Lodge; Chris Maltby, Strandloper; James Murdoch, Southern Sun Cape Sun Hotel.
DECEMBER - HAPPENING NOW!
| Have you booked for Christmas at the Mount Nelson on 3 Dec? It will be a fine affair no doubt, so do advise the Secretariat of your booking asap. Santa Claus has advised that he/she will be present, briefly, in between other gigs. Which means prizes to be given out, which means that you will need some spare cash for raffles. |

YOUNG SKÅL
 |
The Juniors have around 33 members. We are delighted to report that Thanaa Holt seems to have pulled through after a serious round of cancer, and is now resting at home. She is at Thanaa@hotmail.co.uk, and messages of support, contact, will be much appreciated.
|
Wendy Fisk is now Manager of The Crystal, as well as pregnant! So, she will be abdicating her role in Young Skål. Thanks for all your hard work Wendy, from the Committee, and we look forward to seeing the bundle when he/she arrives! |
NEW VENUES
If you have an idea for an interesting venue for lunch or anything else, do please mention it to a Committee Member. We are spreading ourselves around quite nicely, but new venues are always welcome. We now also include Golf Course management as well as restaurateurs involved in the tourist trade-we are pleased to have a couple of the latter now joining us.
MEMBER NEWS
Miles Willis has opened up his own business, called TravelEase Cc - www.travelease.co.za , and will be involved in consulting, incentive programmes, inbound and retail travel. TravelEase offers and exclusive and personalised service at a competitive price. We will take an extensive brief on the phone or email - you do not have to leave your home or office.
MEMBERSHIP 2010
The 2010 Membership cards have arrived-please contact Anne to arrange collection/delivery of your card, if you were unable to attend any recent function. Cards will be available at the December gathering. Thanks so much to the majority of you who have paid your subs, and may we jog the outstanding members into action?
BRANDING
 |
The corporate BRANDING sales of our lunches are going very well-the concept allows members to promote themselves at a low cost while helping to keep general subs down, so it's all good. But, to make it successful, sponsors will need your support. |
